ABOUT THE ARTIST

Hilary BroadHilary Broad was born Hilary Ruth Carr at Windy Corner, Vicarage Hill, South Benfleet, Essex, on 27 November 1939.  She was educated at South Benfleet Primary School and Westcliff High School for Girls and gained an honours degree in Agricultural Botany at Reading University in 1962.

Hilary has been drawing and painting for as long as she can remember.  Over the years, she has won various prizes for artistic works, plus her illustrations have appeared in a number of scientific publications.  More recently her flower designs have been reproduced by Silkcraft Ltd  in the form of gutta outlines which are proving popular with silk artists. Hilary has exhibited regularly with The Chesterfield Art Club and other groups.

Hilary’s painting style is typically neat and accurate, largely the result of her scientific training. From time to time she has tried to loosen up, even become slap-happy. Such work is never to her satisfaction and she soon reverts to a more careful “cleaned up” style.
