Hilary’s techniques for painting backgrounds
6 - Radiating Stripes
Example: Yellow Lily
To get radiating stripes you will need to fold your card along lines of radiation, a bit like a 1960’s lampshade. Wet and paint the fabric as before, on a polythene sheet. Then transfer the polythene sheet onto the former. Make sure that the fabric and polythene drop into the furrows. Allow the paint to dry completely before ironing it and sticking it to a board. The flowers can now be applied using acrylic paint, stencils and little sponges. NB You may actually prefer the background without the strong lines in which case you don’t need the former.
